Cross-country skiing is an experience not to be missed. This popular sport is a real open-air workout and trains not only all of the main muscle groups but also the cardiovascular system. There really is no feeling like gliding through the forest as you listen to the sound of silence.
The region around the Tuxerhof has 30 kilometres of cross-country skiing trails for all abilities.
Skiing is hungry work! That's why it's a good idea to stop every now and then to rest, re-charge your batteries and fill up the tank. There is no better place to do this than at one of the mountain huts in the resort serving hearty local food.
No day on the slopes would be complete without a stop at one of the resort's traditional wooden huts.
Ice skating is the most peaceful winter activity and ideal for all the family. No matter if you are a budding pro with perfect balance or a total beginner taking your first tentative steps, the open-air ice rink in Lanersbach is the right place for a fun and relaxing skating session.
Ice skates can be hired on site. There are generally plenty of experienced skaters around to give you a few pointers and tips on how to improve your technique.
Experience snow-covered landscapes and a glistening sea of 1,000 snow diamonds. Enjoy a hike in the middle of untouched nature and discover the beauty of the snow-covered Zillertal mountains.
Because even apart from the fun on the slopes, the Tuxerhof emphasizes adventure.
During your winter vacation in Tuxertal, around 68 km of winter hiking trails provide the perfect variety. From small challenges in steep terrain to rustic huts and the reward afterwards, winter hiking carries a fairy-tale charm.

Skis certainly aren't the only way to get out into nature and explore the wonders of winter. Snowshoe hikes are great for all ages and give visitors the chance to swap the hustle and bustle of the pistes for a more peaceful experience.
Up, down, left or right – wherever you are headed, the great thing about snowshoe walking is that you are almost always on your own. You might even find a valley off the beaten track with only the local wildlife for company.
All the equipment needed for snowshoe walking can be rented. We recommend also hiring a local guide for the best possible experience.
Many people don't know this, but the sport of tobogganing is actually even older than skiing.
Competitions have been held since the 19th century, and the fascination of this sport continues today.
Visitors staying at the Tuxerhof can look forward to an action-packed adventure on one of the local toboggan runs.
There are three runs in the area around the hotel. All of them have a cosy hut at the top of the run (Bichlalm, Grieralm, Höllensteinhütte) where you can also hire a toboggan. After a hearty meal it is time to clamber aboard and whizz back down into the valley!
Please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff at the Tuxerhof about any of the activities listed here or to find out about other alternative winter activities in the region.
